Project PANDA

Integrated Data Acquisition Unit & Remote Unit | Liquid-Bipropellant Rocket Avionics

Description

Project Panda is a custom, integrated data acquisition and remote actuation unit. It is designed to fly on a liquid-bipropellant rocket built by the Experimental Rocket Propulsion Lab, providing active pressure control within the fluids system, as well as collecting vital data of the fluids system leading up to and during flight.

Panda was designed to meet tight space constraints while also being capable of fully supporting a test fire; it’s interchangeable between the flight vehicle, ground-support equipment, and test stand. Panda supports the following instrumentation:

  • 4-20mA Pressure Transducers

  • S-Beam Load Cells

  • K-type Thermocouples

Being a 6 inch by 9 inch PCB, Panda was designed to fit within compact flight vehicles and control equally compacted fluids systems.

Technical Details

Panda combines numerous aspects of mixed-signal design. All instrumentation channels contain an analog conditioning stage containing buffer and filter stages before passing through a precise 24 bit analog-to-digital converter.
